Atkins have been invited as one of only four consultants to submit design proposals for the extensive redevelopment of the airport.
As part of the developments for the 2008 Olympic games, the CAAC have invited a limited number of consultants to submit design proposals for the expansion of Tianjin airport. The airport will be developed as a second airport for Beijing and the region, allowing for the significant peak numbers of visitors during the Olympics.Currently the airport is a single runway and terminal operation handling up to 1 million ppa. The proposals under development will see the phase expansion of the airport ultimately up to a twin runway airport handling in excess of 30 million pax by the year 2030. The Atkins design is based upon an incremental development of a single terminal operation that has at its heart a clear separation between the landside and airside concourses via an internal/external landscaped zone. |
