Barco’s integrated OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN suite increases air traffic efficiency and reduces air pollution, the company claims, as its products are presented at ATC Global 2008.
Barco will present its integrated suite of arrival and departure management software for flexible resource utilization, reduced workload and queue management in today’s crowded air traffic environment, at ATC Global 2008. Barco’s OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN software can generate increased capacities for limited airside resources like runways and airspace. In addition, the suite offers environmental benefits as it leads to a reduction of fuel consumption and consequent air pollution. Both arrival and departure components are separately or jointly available.Frank Köhne, Market Director of Barcos Air traffic control business unit explains: “Forecasts predict a massive growth of air traffic in the coming decades, with consequences for Air traffic control and airports. Airspaces, runways and taxiways and gates must be used more efficiently, while the workload of controllers should not increase to maintain and even improve safety. Airlines need to reduce fuel consumption and, last but not least, environmental pollution from air planes waiting with running engines must be reduced – whether it is caused by taxi ways, runway waiting times or because of holding stacks.” Barco’s integrated OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN suite In order to adapt to increasing expectations for the efficiency of traffic flows, Barco designed the OSYRIS Decision Support Tool that meets the growing demands of air traffic controllers. The concept of this suite is to generate planning advisories for air traffic controllers in order to automate specific tasks and calculations and improve ATC operations. “With the Barco OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN suite, both air navigation service providers and airports can increase their efficiency and reduce environmental impact at the same time”, Frank Köhne, clarifies. “For instance, controllers can organize inbound and outbound traffic in a more flexible way. When there’s an imbalance between inbound and outbound traffic demand, they may decide to open up the departure runway for aircraft arrivals, or the other way around”. Barco’s OSYRIS AMAN-DMAN comes with modern, ergonomically designed graphical user interfaces that present relevant information to air traffic controllers depending on the situation. The underlying workflow concept can be adapted as required by end users and Human Factors experts. |
