Matthew Knowles, spokesman for the Society of British Aerospace Companies, said 'This report is a welcome contribution to an important debate in which the aviation industry has already delivered a great deal of research results. The aerospace industry encourages the development of sustainable biofuels from second and third generation feedstocks such as jatropha, algae or biomass waste that do not impact on agricultural land. They could make a significant contribution to reducing emissions from aviation, currently standing at around 2 per cent of global man-made CO2 emissions.

Commenting on the news of job losses at Bombardier Aerospace in Northern Ireland Ian Godden, Chief Executive of the Society of British Aerospace Companies, said 'The current downturn is hitting demand for business jets hard and the rate of deferrals by customers for both business and commercial aircraft has increased significantly. Sadly this has had a significant impact on employment at Bombardier as well as certain other manufacturers.

Commenting on the UK National Defence Association report on Armed Forces funding Ian Godden, Chief Executive of the SBAC - the UK's aerospace, defence and security trade association - said 'The defence industry's view is very similar to that of Tony Edwards' research and highlights the need for an urgent Strategic Defence Review. However, we also recognise the need to put the case to the nation to explain why such a review and an increased defence budget are necessary.
